Who is behind @AAGresearch?
AAG are just the initials for my name: Alberto Álvarez González. The reason I chose the the ending “research” is just because that is what I love doing: reading reports to hunt for investing opportunities. I think investing is very similar to the work a historian or a journalist might do: finding the truth about something by learning and thinking. I have always loved learning about almost anything: mathematics, physics, geography, art and particularly history. And I consider investing a great way to turn knowledge into money.
I put hundreds of hours of research into each report, I do it because I love hunting for opportunities.
I carry out all the research and writing you find in the reports you see in this blog. In that sense you can say this blog is a one man job. However, this blog would not be possible without the support (in every sense of the word) of my girlfriend Yeimy, with whom I live. To her I thank all that I have achieved.
Why subscribe?
I have been investing in the stock market for over 12 years. I am deeply passionate about learning and hunting for investing opportunities. From 2017 to 2022 I was fully invested in the uranium market, in which I returned around 1000% on my money.
My best stocks were:
Global atomic (1138%)
Boss Energy (1452%)
Encore Energy (503%)
Vimy Resources (1229%)
Bannerman (841%)
I invested in 10 stocks in the uranium market. My worst stock was ALX resources which returned 90%. After selling all my uranium stocks in 2022 I made enough money to become financially independent and I quit my job. Since then I am 100% focused on researching stocks for opportunities.
On February the 29th I decided to start a blog to write about my investments and how I approach investing. I do it for free. A lot of people have asked me what is the difference between a paid subscriber and a free subscriber: there is no difference. Some subscribers have decided to subscribe through a paid subscription to support my work and thank me for it. But they get no added benefit, yet. Perhaps in the future I will charge for money for my blog.
My education background
Undergraduate degree in Accounting and Finance.
MA in Value Investing and Austrian School Economics.
MSc in Big data and Data Science programming.
My approach
My circle of competence includes mining, shipping, especial situations, and deep value opportunities. I search in any every market except China due to the lack of accounting standards and opacity in information. My approach is always bottom up, searching for stocks on an individual basis, however if I see market trends that the market isn´t pricing in I will invest in them. I search for tailwinds in the industry my stocks are operating in. I also seek for out of favour or unknown industries and stocks, which tend to be the most mispriced. Although cash flow is important in my criteria, if the stock is trading to a large discount to the market value to its assets, I’m happy to invest in them.
I will publish whenever I have something interesting to share. This means that I may not publish anything new for weeks or even (many) months, depending on the opportunities I find, and the time it requires me to do in depth analysis of opportunities. I will always prioritize quality over quantity in my work, even if this means delaying the publishing date of a newsletter.
I believe the best trades and investments are those in which you are the best informed party in that transaction. And I believe that the best information requires hard work and intelligent analysis.
I don’t do ads in my blog, and I don’t accept fees from companies for writing about them. I don´t live off my blog, I live off my investments. I just want to get my ideas known and get feedback to further improve my analysis . At times I may be wrong, and I will try to recognize so and learn from my mistakes.
My favourite quote:
“We go slowly, because we are heading far.”
Diego Guerrero.
